New Year’s Eve vacation in Italy
3 ideas for celebrating in the spa town of Merano

Whizzing down the slopes, savouring gourmet dishes, partying hard or gazing romantically into each other's eyes – a New Year's Eve vacation in Merano can be all that and much more. Depending on how you prefer to celebrate your New Year's Eve holiday, we have put together the perfect New Year's Eve getaway for you in the South Tyrolean spa town, one of the best places to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Alps:

For the young and young at heart

Couples and groups of friends, but also families with children, like to end the year with an action-packed day in the snow. The Merano 2000 hiking and skiing area directly above the town is the perfect place to do so - carve down the sunny slopes, sledge down the toboggan run or take it easy with enchanting winter and snowshoe hikes or ski tours. Even during the day, the party atmosphere in the huts is already going strong, with Prosecco, appetisers, and party music.
But don't stay for too long: the party is already in full swing in the centre of Merano too. We recommend a convivial dinner at the Christmas market, which is open until 10 p.m. on the last day of the year. Afterwards, conquer the night in the bars and clubs of Merano, where the atmosphere is great until the early hours of the morning.

For the relaxed and connoisseurs

Not a party animal? Try a New Year's Eve spa break! Just a few metres from the Wosching Haus Apartments are the famous thermal baths of Merano with a large bathing and sauna area and a luxurious thermal SPA. The thermal baths are open 365 days a year from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and as our guest, you’ll even receive attractive discounts on admission. What could be better than spending the last day of the year in a steaming pool with a view of the snow-covered Merano mountains?
Afterwards, a delicious finish awaits you in our Roemerkeller partner restaurants in Merano and environs, where you can dine at a 10% discount all year round with our Roemer GuestCard. On New Year's Eve, we even serve up a special menu for you. Shortly before midnight, you can head to the promenade, where concerts, DJs and a spectacular light show at the Kurhaus will keep you mesmerised until 2 a.m.

For gourmets and romantics

End the year in style and taste with a guided tour of the Merano winery with a tasting of distillates, sparkling and still wines in the City.Vinothek in the medieval Via dei Portici. For 90 minutes, you will learn interesting facts about wine production in Merano and savour the best wines. Alternatively, the Merano Tourist Office invites you to an exclusive guided tour of the Kurhaus. Take the opportunity to get to know the unique Art Nouveau building, which is normally only accessible for concerts and events, on a private guided tour. After a leisurely lunch in the centre, take a stroll through the lively city. Cosy bars and coffee houses, trendy shops and boutiques and inviting specialty shops await you in the historic alleyways. There, you will find everything you need for a romantic New Year's getaway in the Wosching Haus Apartments. Prepare your New Year's Eve menu of choice together in the fully equipped luxury kitchen and uncork your favourite champagne at midnight - in private on the sofa, on the balcony or who knows, maybe even together in the bathtub.

Bonus: Highlights on New Year’s Day

Your New Year's Eve in Italy is not over at midnight: on the first day of the year, it's time to sleep in and then welcome the new year in style. There are a whole range of events in Merano and environs to do just that. Our tips:

Lumagica in the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle
For the first time, the award-winning gardens will also open in winter and showcase a selection of enchanting light installations dedicated to the beauty of nature and the diversity of life. This way, the themes and landscapes of the botanical gardens can also be experienced during the cold season. Open from 4.30 to 9.30 p.m.

New Year's concert in the Kurhaus
Pick your best dress out of your wardrobe, because on January 1st, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento will be performing in the Kurhaus. The programme includes overtures, arias, polkas and waltzes by Johann Strauss, Johann Strauss Sohn, Joseph Lanner, Carl Ziehrer, Eduard Strauss and Carl Zeller. Soprano: Maria Chabounia. Conductor: Fabrizio Ventura.
